MIXED AGE

This is the essential Music Together® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age 5. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. In a class size of 12 maximum, younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones, older children learn by leading younger ones while they practice and hone their new skills; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. The 45-minute class includes a dozen music experiences ranging from playful free-movement to instrumental jam sessions to songs and chants in unusual tonalities and meters as found in other cultures. Utilizing informal instruction, each child is allowed to participate at his or her own level, singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring instruments. The whole family is welcome for this important all-music class experience—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the children and are expected to participate in the music circle. Our teachers help adults understand how to participate in their child’s primary music development, regardless of musical ability!

MIXED AGE - Reduced Class Size

This is a reduced class size Mixed Age Music Together class. We have reduced the class size to 8 students for children who feel more comfortable in a small group.  See the Mixed Age Class description for more details.

SING FRENCH WITH MADAME JULIE!

Music is a great tool for learning a new language. This immersion-style class proves it by incorporating vocabulary through French folk songs and other fun musical activities.  Miss Julie is a native French-speaker and will introduce your children to the language in a developmentally appropriate and fun way. No prior knowledge of French is necessary just a willingness to sing and have fun "en francais!"

{Purchase of the Music Together materials is not required for this class}

Quote from Sarah Montzka, Parent of Luke, in Madame Julie's French Class Winter 2010:

"Madame Julie's class is a highlight of our week. Madame Julie's enthusiasm for music, beautiful voice and detailed explanations of musical concepts really bring the songs to life!  Madame Julie has also been a great source o reassurance as our son learned how to "take a class".  In the beginning, Luke largely observed rather than participated and cried when it was time to put something away (rhythm sticks, shakers, and the like).  Madame Julie's encouragement and her own consistent example of calm and patience helped me learn how to better support our boy through class transitions.  Madame Julie has created an environment where children can experience the joy of music and, at the same time, feel safe in expressing themselves as their social skills develop.  We are SO grateful for her part in our son's musical upbringing and look forward to the rest of the journey!"

MIXED AGE - Spanish Twist

This class offers the same format as a Mixed Age Music Together class and will incorporate vocabulary and folk songs in the spanish language. Our teacher speaks the language and will introduce your children to spanish in a developmentally appropriate and fun way. No prior knowledge of Spanish is necessary just a willingness to sing and have fun with songs in a different language.

BABIES ONLY

A class for newborns through eight months. Song activities are designed to facilitate an active support for infants' musical growth and the creation of a special bond between parent and child through music. This class incorporates activities such as babbling with baby, finger plays, infant massage, large movement and the use of partners and mirrors.

I CAN SING!

Exploring and developing their singing voices, 4-6 year olds will learn to match pitch and identify intervals as we sing traditional folk songs, simple rounds and harmony. Concepts including head and chest voice, breath support, and glissando will build a foundation for healthy vocal production in our relaxed group setting. Enrollment is limited to 8 students. Purchase of Music Together materials is not required for this class. PLEASE NOTE: Parents/caregivers must remain in the lobby area for the duration of the class. {Children must be 4 years old by the first day of classes...no exceptions}

MIXED AGE - Supportive Environment

This Mixed Age Supportive Environment Music Together® class will offer increased support to children exhibiting regulation disorders, speech issues, sensory processing disorders or developmental delays. They will attend alongside their typically developing siblings. Adaptations will be made so that each child can participate to the best of his or her ability. The instructor will use visual aids to accompany music and activities, adjusting sensory input as needed to maximize the engagement and enjoyment of each child. Communication between parents and the instructor will provide parents with strategies to increase engagement and participation of their children. It is our goal to offer an experience rich in music, movement and interaction in a fun and supportive environment.
