Music Together®

Our essential Mixed Age class is one that a child attends from birth through age 5 and is currently being offered outdoors and in the classroom. Music Together is designed to teach the way young children learn--through play.

We take a natural, family-style approach to all of our classes. The grownups follow the teacher’s lead, so the little ones can watch their musical example and participate at their own level. Babies watch the big kids who show off their developing musical skills—it’s magical to watch the interactions in a Mixed Age class!

During each music class, the teacher leads music activities for the whole family to sing, play, and jam along to. Each class has been designed as an interactive music-making experience for little ones with their grownups. The class includes a range of musical experiences, from playful free-movement to instrumental jam sessions, where each child participates at their own level: singing, moving, listening, watching, or exploring instruments.

During each session, we explore a different collection of songs that draw from folk tunes mixed with sounds from around the globe and chants in unusual tonalities and meters. Each family receives a songbook, CD and download code for the mobile app to bring the music home and make it a part of everyday life and routines.

Music Together Babies

Music Together: Babies Only

Designed to facilitate an active support for infants' musical growth, the goal of this class is to create a special bond between parent and child through music.

The music activities in a Babies class are specifically designed to teach parents how to support music development in infancy and how to connect with their infants through music, using concepts like “purposeful touch,” “sound layering,” and “dancing for baby.” This gentle class is focused on the needs of infants who are not yet crawling, such as babbling with baby, finger plays, infant massage, and large movement.

Meet the Instruments

Meet the Beat

Building on what kids have learned in Music Together classes, 4 to 7 year-olds explore rhythm and pitch through playful activities using a variety of percussion instruments. Kids experience how the beat feels in their bodies through creative movement and how it sounds by singing intervals in Solfege—do, re, mi, fa sol! Improvisation is the name of the game as we build a solid musical foundation that will support growth into private instruction in any instrument. This is a drop-off class.

Piano kids group class

Meet the Piano

Children ages 3-5 explore foundational skills that prepare them to be successful at playing the piano. During this 45-minute weekly class, students will participate in creative movements that help build their technique and finger dexterity, learn basic rhythms, improvise at the piano, learn one to two basic songs, and gain an understanding of keyboard geography. Caregivers are expected to be in the classroom with their children to encourage participation and observe their child’s growth and progress.

Piano Group
Ukulele

Meet the Ukulele

Ukulele is a great introductory instrument for little hands. This 45-minute group class for children ages 3 to 7 teaches your children proper uke playing position, how to tune their uke, and some basic chords, so that they can begin to sing and play together. There is even a performance opportunity at the end of the session! Caregiver attendance is encouraged, especially for younger children. Learn more about class from Mr. Daniel!

Violin Group Class

Meet the Violin

During this 45-minute weekly class for ages 3 to 6, children are introduced to the violin with a playful method of learning that incorporates games, songs, and movement. They learn the parts of the violin and develop some basic skills that lead to a short performance at the end of the semester. The children will craft a box violin the first week of class and use wooden bows, so purchasing a violin is unnecessary. Children must be 3 years old by the first day of classes. Caregivers are expected to be in the classroom with their children to encourage participation and observe their child’s growth and progress.

Guitar Group Class

Meet the Guitar

This 45-minute group class for children ages 3 to 6 gives them a taste of the guitar through games, crafts, and skill development. It is a great way to expose young children to instrumental instruction to determine if they would like to begin private instruction. Children will craft a box guitar on the first day of class to use. Caregiver attendance is encouraged, especially for younger children. Offered Fall & Spring Semester, so that children have the opportunity to perform in the recital at the end of the session.
